MAK Center for Art + Architecture at the Schindler House

In August 1994, Friends of the Schindler House (FoSH) entered into a cooperation agreement with the Republic of Austria to create the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, LA, at the Schindler House, a satellite of the Museum für Österreichisches Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. The agreement allowed FoSH to retain ownership of the property with MAK assuming programming responsibility.

The programming at the MAK Center investigates the relationship between art and architecture and includes exhibitions, lectures, symposia and concerts. The MAK Center also sponsors six-month residencies for art and architecture students who are chosen competitively. The residents live in Schindler's Mackey Apartments in Los Angeles, owned by the Republic of Austria.
