SCHINDLER TALKS
Presented by Friends of Schindler House
In our new series, Schindler Talks, we invite guests for an informal conversation to share their stories of the Schindler House and explore the ways in which it has inspired, influenced and otherwise touched their lives, their work and the larger design world.
Guests will include original members of Friends of Schindler House, those who knew Pauline and were instrumental in purchasing and preserving the property as well as Historians, Architects, Designers, Makers and anyone who has been influenced not only by the simple yet innovative built form itself but also the ethos and lifestyle it and its inhabitants cultivated.
We hope you join us for this monthly series to learn more about the Schindler’s Kings Road house and our work to keep its legacy alive.

M. Schindler, Richard Neutra, and Charles and Ray Eames—Nothing Permanent demonstrates how this prolific era of modern architecture in California, rather than constituting a homogenous movement, was propelled by disparate approaches and aims.
PARTY HOUSE: a conversation with USC Heritage Conservation Students
We’re heading to the Party House! Join USC Heritage Conservation students Emily Varley, Chloe Cuffel, and Chuy Barba Bonilla for a discussion of Rudolph Schindler's 1922 Kings Road House. An early mecca for West Hollywood social gatherings, happenings, salons and debates, the house was literally (and metaphorically!) built on Schindler’s Communist party ideals and at the time, flew in the face of American white picket fences. Our discussion topics include: KRH social and artistic context, zoning and permitting, communal living, international housing, marriage, and appliances (it’s related, we swear).
There will be trivia! And prizes! We hope you will join us!
The "Party Goers"
Jesús (Chuy) Barba Bonilla was born in Mexico and grew up in Zacatecas, a Spanish colonial mining city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which is where he became passionate about history and architecture. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Heritage Conservation at the University of Southern California while working as an Architectural Designer in the firm of Page & Turnbull, he also serves as Director on the Docomomo US Board.
Chloe Cuffel is a writer and urbanist from Southern California with particular focus on pedestrian advocacy, Los Angeles on film, and dignified housing for all. After working as an editor and making a few short films, she is now pursuing her Masters degrees in Urban Planning and Heritage Conservation. She is a Planner for the City of Glendale, where she lives with her dog Gromit.
Emily Varley is a Master of Urban Planning & Master of Heritage Conservation graduate student at the University of Southern California with a background in Archaeology. Emily is originally from St. Louis, Missouri and enjoys studying place-based heritage and traditional ecological knowledge.
